Lithops fulviceps v. lydiae   - 20 fresh seeds

seeds of lithops and other plants belonging to this beautiful family Aizoaceae. They live in Africa and can withstand high temperatures. But it is worth remembering that for the successful germination of seeds, it is necessary to adhere to a strict temperature regime. Seeds should germinate at a temperature of 22-25 degrees Celsius 65-80 F. If the temperature is high, the seeds will not germinate.

Combine equal amounts of potting soil and perlite. Lightly moisten the mixture with water, and fill a pot that has drainage holes, leaving about a half-inch of space at the top.

Spread the lithops seeds evenly across the surface of the soil. Cover them with a thin layer, approximately 1/8 inch, of fine sand or crushed stone. Avoid covering the seeds too heavily, as this can prevent germination.

Use a spray bottle to mist the soil, keeping it consistently moist during the germination phase. To help retain moisture, place a sheet of plastic wrap or a piece of glass over the top of the pot.

Position the pot in a sunny, warm spot. Maintain a temperature between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If necessary, use a heating mat beneath the pot to keep the soil warm. The seeds typically begin to sprout within two to 12 weeks.

Once germination begins, remove the plastic or glass cover. When the seedlings become crowded and large enough to handle, usually after about a year, move them into individual pots. Keep these pots in a location that gets plenty of sunlight.

Be careful not to overwater the seedlings as they grow. Water only when the top quarter-inch of the soil feels dry. After about three months, allow the soil to fully dry out between waterings.

Ensure the lithops receive around five hours of direct sunlight each day.

Bear in mind that not all seeds will germinate at the same time; some may take up to a year to sprout.
